The Nail Technician Program requires 450 clock hours for completion. The first 150 hours of instruction are science and theory classes. Theory instruction will cover the following subjects: sterilization, antiseptics, and histology of the arm, hands, skin, muscles, nerves, and diseases of the nails. The next 300 hours will be in clinical training. Clinical training will include manicures, application of artificial nails, nail polish, hand and arm massage, care of equipment and safety measures, resume development, interview preparation, and job search skills.

 The Nail Technician Program is designed to train the student in the basic manipulative skills, safety judgments, proper work habits, business skills, and desirable attitudes necessary to obtain licensure and competency in job entry-level positions in nail technology or a related career field. 

 A nail technician student shall receive no less than 450 hours in clinical and theory class work with a minimum of: (a) 150 lecture hours for science and theory; (b) Twenty-five (25) hours on the subject of applicable Kentucky statutes and administrative regulations; and (c) 275 clinic and practice hours. 

A nail technician student shall have completed sixty (60) hours before providing services to the general public. Clinical practice shall be performed on other students or mannequins during the first sixty (60) hours.
